Power over Ethernet (PoE) Patents
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology that allows an Ethernet cable to carry both data and electrical power to network devices such as IP (Internet Protocol) switches, routers and IP telephones. PoE technology saves money and improves efficiency, for example, by eliminating the requirement for these networked products to have a separate electrical power cable and a local power connection.
Conversant’s portfolio of more than 300 PoE-related patents and applications covers Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), such as PoE switches and routers, and Powered Device (PD) equipment including Wireless Access Points, IP Phones and IP Cameras.
Conversant Networking Patents
Ethernet is a family of computer networking technologies used for controlling the flow of information between computerized devices in Local Area Networks (LANs). Our portfolio of more than 50 Networking patents and applications resulted from innovations by company engineers who were developing semiconductor chipsets for Layer 2/Layer 3 Ethernet switches and routers.
The patents in our Networking portfolio apply to methods and devices that improve system performance. For example, the inventions cover congestion detection on an output queue, link aggregation for Ethernet switches, avoiding internal buffer starvation and providing wire-speed IP multicast forwarding.
